Spirituality: Identifying the Presence in Oneself and Delving it
The unexamined life is not worth living
Socrates declared the essence of Eudemonia, which means a good life. “The only good is knowledge”.

I have been pondering the meaning of spirituality for several days now. Although it is a commonly used term, I am still determining its true definition. Is it a state of mind or a virtue of the soul? I am unfamiliar with the practical aspects of being a spiritual person and am trying to figure out how to recognise my spiritual growth. Will I gain special powers once I achieve spirituality? What daily practices or religious texts should I follow to become more spiritual? It’s worth noting that spirituality transcends any religion and is discussed in various religious contexts with different names.
I have a few questions about spirituality that I’d like to explore. I’m curious about why it’s important, what it means, and how someone can become spiritual. How can I tell if I’ve achieved spirituality, how can I confirm that state, and how can I identify whether someone else is spiritual? I am a typical person who prioritises karma over religious rituals and doesn’t possess any special abilities. I want to find answers from those who consider themselves spiritual or have a close relationship with spiritual gurus or organisations heavily involved in religious practices.
MISCONCEPTIONS AND MISINFORMATION – Seek The Truth
I recently had a conversation about spirituality with someone close to me who is a devotee of Iscon. They mentioned that you were also interested in spirituality when I told them I had read the Gita, was reading the Vedas, and was planning to read the Upanishads next. I explained that I was reading these texts out of curiosity and a desire for knowledge. However, I had heard that Vedic texts state that women should not read the Vedas, which made me question the truth behind this claim. Upon further research, I discovered that the Vedas never restrict women from reading them, which made me wonder why this misconception has been spread. For this reason, I have decided to scrutinise each piece of information before believing it based on some past saying. My sole purpose is to seek the truth and acquire knowledge from whatever source. I will share my perceptions and thoughts on the Vedas soon. Is Santana Dharma Spirituality? I tried to look for the path to be spiritual; knowing what we must achieve is of utmost importance than how to succeed.

UNSELFISHNESH: Can it be called Spirituality?
I was curious about spirituality and asked someone what it meant. They told me that “True spirituality is Unselfishness”. This made me wonder, what exactly is Unselfishness? I understand the world operates on a balance of give and take, selfishness and unselfishness. For instance, reading something to gain knowledge for my benefit can be seen as an act of selfishness. I realised that my actions often show selfishness, and I wondered how to move closer to spirituality. I concluded that Unselfishness is the act of performing good deeds or Karma, which brings happiness to others. However, I am unsure if the other person is genuinely happy with my actions or if they are pretending to please me.
My close friend always tells me to do what gives me happiness, but he never tells me to do what makes others happy. Does it mean that he is taking me away to go far from spirituality? Then he is not my friend; he is an enemy because he asks to be selfish. Then I was told that what parents do to kids is unselfishness, but to me, it is not the truth; there is selfishness in everything. When your kid does well in exams, you feel proud of it; that happiness they are giving you, you are not giving to the kid. Hence, taking happiness is not unselfishness. I got confused and couldn’t move forward from unselfishness.
MEDITATING: Is it Spirituality?
“I met someone new and asked them about their thoughts on spirituality. They disagreed that spirituality is unselfishness and instead believed it involves meditating and transforming oneself into a new person. While I wanted to explore this idea further, I could tell that it wasn’t fascinating to them, so I stopped the conversation. Nonetheless, I was left contemplating how meditation can be a part of spirituality, what one experiences during the meditation process, and how it can lead to personal transformation.”
SPITITUAL GURUS: How can they make us Spiritual?
I understand many people have answered my question, but I still need clarification. They say spirituality is a complicated concept, but why is it so difficult to understand? Some people believe that being detached from materialistic things and worldly possessions is part of being spiritual. However, I still need to achieve this state despite trying to pursue spirituality. I’ve also noticed that many spiritual gurus are actively involved in politics and enjoy materialistic things. This makes me wonder what special powers they have to navigate this chaotic world.
PROOF OF SPIRITUALITY : Communication establishment between Humans and God?

I was reading Plato’s Symposium, which features Socrates’ dialogues with an imaginary character named Diotima. During their conversations about love, Socrates asked Diotima, “What is love?” She said that love is a good spirit between God and humans. When Socrates asked about their function, Diotima explained that they interpret and carry messages between humans and gods and communicate and converse with humans.… entirely through the medium of spirit….’
DIVING INTO SPIRITUALITY : Heart Lighter than a Feather?
Is there a type of spirit in humans that can bring them closer to God or a higher power through communication? Does spirituality involve being virtuous and pure, with a heart lighter than a feather and free from sin? A spiritual person has let go of attachments and achieved a state of purity. I have yet to reach this level of spirituality. I often dream of flying in the air, but as an engineer, I question how it is possible to fly against gravity. However, my inner soul tells me that one can fly like this when their heart is pure, and their soul is clean. I plan to pursue this kind of spirituality in the future, as it is the ultimate purpose of life. When we carry burdens in our hearts, we feel heavy, but when we share them, we feel lighter and cleanse our souls. I hope to get closer to God someday by focusing on these two things.
STILL SEARCHING THE ANSWERS IN THESE WORDS:
“UNSELFISHNESS > MEDITATION > DETACHMENT > PURE SOUL > SPIRIT HAVING COMMUNICATION POWER WITH GOD”
HOPE ONE DAY I WILL GET SOME CLUE ON THIS
